  • Why should I get massages after having a tummy tuck/liposuction?
MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage) massages are important to have after surgery because they help to reduce the risk of developing fibrosis/scar tissue. Which would usually occur within the first 3 weeks. Without the massages serous fluid will calcify which eventually leads to hard, stiff, restricted areas.
  • How often should I be getting massages?
You should be getting a massage at least once everyday your first week after surgery. By the second week, you should be receiving them every other day. Third and fourth week, you may go down to three massages per week. At week 5 and 6, you should only need two massages per week. Lastly, weeks 7-12 only require massages once per week/month. Depending on your stage of healing.
  • When will my swelling and bruising go away?
Everyone's recovery process is different but on average swelling can range anywhere from 3-4 months. And it can take up to 6 months for the swelling to completely subside. Whereas, bruising takes about 3 weeks to disappear.
  • How long do I need to keep wearing my faja and foams?
Fajas and foams should be worn for 23 hours a day with only a 1 hour break. To ensure you get the best results, you’ll want to continue wearing your faja for a year. You may stop wearing your foams after 3 months but it would still be recommended to wear them when going to bed. At the 6 month mark, you can wear a waist trainer during the day instead of a faja.
  • My belly button looks like it’s closing up, is there anything I can do to keep its shape?
You can purchase belly button plugs at various retailers but you can also use a few household items to substitute. Such as a small piece of gauze, cotton ball, ear plug or marble. Just use paper tape or Tegaderm to keep it in place.
  • Do I need to wear my compression stockings?
Yes. In order to reduce your risk of developing a blood clot which can lead to a Pulmonary Embolism. It is advised that you wear your compression stockings for 10-14 days after surgery.
  • What should I be eating after having a BBL?
For the first 2 weeks you’ll want to concentrate on consuming a “diet” that’s rich in proteins, complex carbs and healthy fats. Refrain from “dieting” immediately after a BBL because you want your body to maintain the fat that has been transferred to desired area(s). However, it is normal to experience a loss of appetite, nausea and bruising after the procedure.
  • It’s been a few weeks and butt looks smaller, will it stay this size?
No. However, normal fat loss after a BBL is 30-40%. That being said, at the 3/4 month mark you’ll enter the “fluffing” stage. Which basically means your butt begins to soften up and appear bigger.
  • What should I do if I have a Faja burn? Should I still get massages?
    - STOP wearing faja and foams, - Avoid direct pressure to affected area - DO NOT get massages! Your skin needs to breathe and heal without any potential contaminants. Cleanse the area with normal saline ONLY and book an appointment for a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber to speed up the healing process.
  • Is it normal to feel depressed after surgery?
Yes. You are not alone. It is very common for people to experience sadness or feel unhappy with their results immediately after having plastic surgery. It’s just your bodies reaction to coming off of the medication. Try and be patient, your final result won’t appear overnight. You’re doing fine. The feeling usually passes after a month.
